Being Single

Natasha Bedingfield's "Single" speaks out about women not needing to feel "incomplete" if they don't happen to be in a relationship, and urges them to maintain their independence.

Verse 1:-
I'm not waitin' around for a man to save me
(Cos I'm happy where I am)
Don't depend on a guy to validate me
(No no)
I don't need to be anyone's baby
(Is that so hard to understand?)
No I don't need another half to make me whole

Still Unwritten...

"No music, no life "
Thatz wat it says plainly on one of my fave tees

Thatz how much I love music

Music is amazing, it can describe what you are feeling, it can inspire you, motivate you, make you laugh, make you tear

At the moment, on the top of my playlist is this old song by Natasha Bedingfield

Unwritten
Music & Lyrics: Natasha Bedingfield

"I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined
I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find...

...Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten..

I break tradition, sometimes my tries, are outside the lines
We've been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can't live that way..."

A rousing statement about developing a positive attitude, develop the confidence to take life and own it
Esp with Bedingfield's voice resonating, they can be powerful.

What I learn last sunday during service

The title of the sermon was "Why worry when you can pray"

An apt title considering I've been worrying so much abt my current situation in life.

Elder Chin spoke from Philipians 4:6-9

This is wat i learned in a nutshell

  1. Pray, Ponder, Practise - These are preventive as well as prescriptive -->leading to peace in the heart
  2. Wrong to let anxiety dominate us -->implies that we dun trust God enuff; we do not believe God to be God!
  3. Pray
    1. in obedience
    2. with supplication (sense of a begger begging)
    3. with thanksgiving (an attitude) (thankful for EVERYTHING, incl 'bad' things!)

Music and Lyrics

I've been living with a shadow overhead
I've been sleeping with a cloud above my bed
I've been lonely for so long
Trapped in the past, I just can't seem to move on

I've been hiding all my hopes and dreams away
Just in case I ever need em again someday
I've been setting aside time
To clear a little space in the corners of my mind

I've been watching but the stars refuse to shine
I've been searching but I just don't see the signs
I know that it's out there
There's got to be something for my soul somewhere

I've been looking for someone to shed some light
Not somebody just to get me through the night

I could use some direction
And I'm open to your suggestions

All I want to do is find a way back into love
I can't make it through without a way back into love
And if I open my heart again
I guess I'm hoping you'll be there for me in the end

There are moments when I don't know if it's real
Or if anybody feels the way I feel
I need inspiration
Not just another negotiation

And if I open my heart to you
I'm hoping you'll show me what to do
And if you help me to start again
You know that I'll be there for you in the end

Makan Review - Satsuma shochu

Satsuma shochu dining bar @The Gallery Hotel
Great ambience, sit by the bar, traditional jap, or table and chair - u choose
Satsuma is the ancient name of the current Kagoshima prefecture in Japan. It's the place that produces the best imo (sweet potato) shochu, a popular drink in Japan. Shochu is a popular distilled alcoholic beverage in Japan that is typically fermented from sweet potatoes, barley or rice.

It’s hard not to fall in love with Satsuma when you first step into it. Satsuma is not your traditional Japanese izakaya (casual Japanese pub). The wood-themed furniture with painted sakura motifs on wall brings you into a modern day Japanese pub setting, a pretty, rustic, nihon-styled fairytale setting, and lotsa yummy food!!
Dishing out a contemporary twist of Japanese cuisine, expect to find not only traditional Japanese food but also fusion dishes. This is also the only Japanese bar in Singapore that is dedicated to shochu (as of 2007).
Shochu is nice! LOTS of different ones...there are more than 50 types served here - consumed in a variety of ways, from neat or on the rocks to having it mixed in a cocktail, my dinner companion was amused before being a bit annoyed that I could not decide wat to haf!
When one comes to an izakaya, the highlight is always the sumiyaki(charcoal-grill). The grilled options are great! At Satsuma, the grill does not disappoint.
The pork with leek, chicken balls were good, softshell crab was ok. Mackeral is somewhat yucky
Sashimi was thick and yumm!

Overall, I'll give it a B, the plus was taken away by the cost, even for a Jap meal, i think it's ex. abt $40 per person! Erm...thanks for the treat Shuhuai!
Cuisine: Modern Japanese Cuisine wif Shochu specialty

What does it mean for a Christian to be a new person?

In verses 5-9 ,Paul mentioned the vices to be put off; in verses 12-17 he mentions good habits, which the new man is to cultivate:

Bowels of mercies : The heart of compassion.

Kindness : Our love for others must result in more than words.

Humbleness of mind : Concerned for others rather than with one's own interests.

Meekness : Willingness to suffer wrong.

Longsuffering : The willingness to endure quietly suffering or wrong.

Forbearing one another : Putting up with others.

Forgiving one another : To grant grace.

Love : Genuine godly love, a loving temper of mind, which seeks the other person's good.

Peace : Reconciliation to God (Rom 5:1 ). Peace denotes a calm mind and a yielded spirit not easily upset or disturbed by adversity.

Be ye thankful : Any person can be happy and thankful when all goes well and when everyone speaks well of him; but the Christian is to give thanks in ALL things (1 Thess 5:18 ). Matthew Henry once robbed of his purse, wrote these words in his diary: "Let me be thankful first, because I was never robbed before; second, because, although they took my purse, they did not take my life; third, because, although they took my all, it was not much; and fourth, because it was I who was robbed, not I who robbed."

THOUGHT: "When we are weak, then are we strong. When most empty of self, we are most full of God." --- Charles Hodge.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to manifest the fruit of the Spirit in my life.

Makan Reviews

I L-O-V-E food. Period.

and i love to review stuff!
So I shld give a shot at writing reviews...specifically food reviews.

I can't promise fancy writing that promises to whet yer appetite but wat i can promise is simple, straightforward no-nonsense no fancy pancy review of the place, food and service.

First up, my latest craze about all things indian (Ash!!! I love you!!! :P)

So it is only appropriate that I review my fave indian eating place in Sg - Annalakshmi!

Eat as you like, pay as you feel...

So...What does Annalakshmi mean?

Annalakshmi is the Hindu Goddess of Food and the adage "athithi devo bhava" meaning "the Guest is God" is the motivating factor. This factor is a tribute to the Goddess of Plenty, Annalakshmi. These ideals, the warmth and the service very soon capture the imagination of diners. Opened since 1983 when it was first located at the Exclesior Annalakshmi aims to provide food for the soul by providing a good wholesome meal to those who walk in.

The most attractive part of it (to Singaporeans especially) is the philosophy of giving what you feel. In other words...u pay watever amount u feel like giving.
And I feel like giving $20 for my meal! It has yummy indian food!
Friendly service and nice ambience
Location's not bad (Chinatown Point), and it's near to MRT (Chinatown)
Other locations around the world include Perth, KL, and Penang.
Personally, I tried the one in KL (Midvalley Megamall), it's slightly different (it's buffet style, so no menu) but is just as good! Try the pappadums and lassi esp, one of my faves!

I give it an A!
For more info, goto http://www.annalakshmi.com.sg/index.htm

My other raves...a quick review...
  • PS Cafe - avoid eating a meal there, just go there for drinks and desserts. B+
  • Settlers Cafe - hawker centre western food, but the games are great! B-
  • Liquid Kitchen - menu has variety and nice drinks and finger food. B+
  • TCC - wide variety of food and drinks, nice decor BUT I feel that it's a tad bit pricey so...go to Starbucks (I love its green tea frappe!) instead if u just want drinks! B-

Working wif kids

Thanks Shan fer the lobang!

Today, thks to shan, my sis and I got some work to do (rather than 'rot' at home the whole day doing meaningless starings at our computer screens)

The mission: Entertain kids and help them with their art and crafts
The place: Courts Megamall (@Tampines)

My sis and I spent the whole day trying to kids to join us in our art and crafts sessions. We did stained glass stickers, making greeting cards, and pencil holders (we also attempted at air tattoo but could not figure out how the darn airbrush contraception works!?)

Those kids were aw-so-cuuute! They were sooo adorable I wish I could bring them home!

I took some pictures too (unfortunately their faces couldn't be seen clearly)

Makan Review - Miss Clarity

I went to this place after the IT Show and I'd like to recommend this cafe.

It's Miss Clarity @Purvis StFirstly, the place...it's got a cutesy setup (and I later learned that it was opened by a guy!)
Apparently, Miss Clarity was named after the owner's niece. It had a nice, cozy ambience, and it feels quite homey.

The food is reasonably priced and the portions are HUGE-mongous! Try their chicken dishes...is nice! The menu has a good variety and the service is pretty good. My fren was actually greeted by his name! Wow...but too bad no discount...drats!

Overall score: B+!

The Mis-adventures of Ah Jzin

There was this boy...his name was Ah Jzin. Since coming back from Adelaide, he had alwis wanted to KL to visit this old fren and he was pretty hyped up abt the trip. So he took a trip to KL one weekend. This is his story...

Ah Jzin and fren in question had been keeping in contact since they parted in Adl. They stayed in contact ever since. Both discussed that Ah Jzin should make a trip up to KL from Singapore and meet up. So Ah Jzin just had to wait for the right time and save up for the trip. But alas, fate would have it that there be obstacles and delays...the trip was actually postponed 3 times!

Finally, on a March weekend, there was time and nothing to stop the bus ride to KL. So the bus ride was booked for Friday morning with Grassland Express. "Yipppeee!" Ah Jzin thought...finally this trip is happening! However when the sms was send to old fren, Ah Jzin thot the reply from old fren seems a tad bit indifferent..."hmmm, I must be oversensitive", Ah Jzin thot to himself, dismissing the thot.

Friday came and little did Ah Jzin realised that he was gonna get more than just a simple meeting with an old fren...

So Ah Jzin, being the silly boy he is, thought he was supposed to be at the meeting point at 9, little did he realise that the bus DEPARTS AT 9! SO...silly boy almost missed his bus...wat a way to start!

So, finally...on his way to KL! Had his fave Ramly burger along the way, slept most of the journey till reached KL.
First task...go to accomodation...The Radius Int'l...nice place...ok location (Jln Bintang Chengkat), resonable price, but slow service! Lousy TV shows. B-

Second day...Replica Inn...looks nice from the outside BUT the inside is budget look...diaoz...
but for the price, i can't realli complain...it was good. Location is the best among the 3 places i stayed. But again, lousy TV shows. B-

Third day, Hotel Nova...mmmm...my fave of the lot. It's clean, looks new, good location, it's also near the Jln Alor hawker street! And better TV shows! so overall I'll give it a B+.

Farewell dear frenz...

ah...it started with Amanda and Fangyi i guess...they came and they went...like the wind...

Then Jason and Gillian...

Then there was the mass exodus, 'Jie', 'Yellow' and Lam @T1, Alsen and 'Mummy' (and yanyi, but I din see her!) @T2...wah...then I realised that I would realli miss all of them...
Things will definitely be different without them around, those days in Adelaide, the dinners together, the walks, the talks, etc
sigh...those days are far gone and I've got to move forward. but thatz another story...

So after I realised that I missed them terribly, I took the opportunity to meet up with Shan as much as I could as she too was leaving soon after. Thank God for the opportunity we had, Friday was really a good time of fellowship. We hardly talked since we came back from Adelaide last Dec and it was great to spend time chatting over drinks.

I tried to do the same for my 'niece' but unfortunately, miss heah was pretty busy...she was fully booked for the whole week...pity...was looking forward to the singing!

But I must say I dun regret much as I did meet with them as much as I could...so thank God for those wonderful opportunities that we did meet up! I'll miss those shopping, eating, singing and tennis sessions!

I must say...this was one of my best holidays ever! Thanks guys (& gals)!

Take care peeps (as yellow wld say)!

I love you guys and I miss u lotz
