Scars Makes Us Stronger For Life

Another fave from her latest album...

"Scars form whenever we hurt ourselves, if we have an injury to our bodies, our bodies respond by healing, and often, forming scar tissues over the wounds.
The scar tissue is usually thicker and stronger than our normal skin.
In our lives, we often encounter events, or situations with people that hurt us, for eg, a lot of us have gone through the painful feeling of a break-up with a girlfriend or boyfriend, or the loss of a loved one, or the pain of being ill.
I believe that when we go through the sad and painful events in our lives, we eventually heal, and we become stronger as a result of the challenges we experience."
- Corrinne May

'Scars (Stronger for Life)' by Corrinne May

I just want to run
Just want to hide away
Close my eyes to your gaze
Just want to leave
Don't want to hear them say
"You're no good at this"

When the world swirls with naysayers
Broken wings and torn pages
The road ahead
Drowning in my tears

Break me open
Tear me down
Into pieces
Broken crumbs
On the ground
You can mould and shape me
In your image
Breathe your life
You know I need it
Scars make us stronger for life

Losing myself
Gaining it back again
Forging strength from weakness
All that I am
All that I'm meant to be
Melting in your hand

Let the world swirl with naysayers
Pickled hearts and sour faces
What is real is what I cannot see

Cut away
All within me
That won't bear fruit
Cut away
All within me

Scars make us stronger for life

Facebook/Friendster...a waste of time? or a great practical/useful social tool?

I rarely read the newspapers but today I happened to read the 'Today' newspaper and one article in the techcomment section caught my attention

"The Most Annoying People on Facebook"

I have been using Facebook since its early inception but my frenz were mainly from Australia/Europe. Most of my Singaporean friends were on Friendster instead. At first, I thot Facebook was one of those social websites that were destined to die or be rarely used or taken seriously by Singaporeans (e.g. WAYN, MySpace, Tagged, Multiply, hi5, BeBo, Windows Live Spaces...some of these which i am guilty of being a member...)
So i ignored the first few invites by friends as there were too many of these email invites (evites) floating ard and taking up email space! Then after a while, u just simply cannot ignore the tremendous amounts of evites so I decided to check it out...lo, like some friends declared on their facebook "I am addicted to Facebook!" "Facebook is addictive!" I, too got hooked on Facebook.
It is somewhat different from Friendster (more options) and besides, I had more Aussie friends on it than Friendster (apparently Friendster is an Asian thing, worldwide, MySpace and Facebook are the top social websites).

The writer, Holly Jean for the Today article says she finds Facebook annoying YET she wun quit loggin in to check for updates.

She lists a few things that irks her abt Facebook

  • The Super Pokerdo...she writes, "I poke you, you poke me, etc" "Many people leave meaningless back and forth messages on a daily basis" "Probably so that they will be more prominent on the news feed" "But leaving a 'hug' or 'kiss' every now and then is okay. It allows friends to send meaningful greetings and keep abreast of one another's lives"

  • The Commentator...this person does not leave humour, satire, nor has something nostalgic to say BUT rather leaves a comment in hope that u return the favour later on your profile

  • The Face Collector does not actually have 273 friends but adds every single person he comes across, known, seen or heard about (reminds me of MySpace). Jean writes "Have you ever tried to juggle more than 20 friends in real life? It's tiring." "If they are people you met once, they are not friends" "A legit minority use Facebook to keep in contact with friends, but please don't fall into the trap of being a Face Collector!" She writes that people are not trading cards despite wat the Collector thinks.

  • The Photo Fiend: "yes, it' nice to see a few dozen pictures of your holiday or event but do we really need to see 2 million pointless ones of every angle of your body and face? Jean realises that many snapped pics of themselves using the aerial view method. Many take pics of themselves (innocently) looking up and the camera happens to point down to their cleavage!

  • The Group Junkie loves joining every single (pointless) group there is! Do you really need to be part of the "I love mullets" grp or be a member of "The Derek Zoolander Centre for Kids who can't read good" and ten other grps which serve no real purpose to prove your sense of humour? I mean...how often to you really go back to these grps for updates and useful info?

  • The Application addict - This person adds all kinds of 'cool' applications and spams everyone elses email with "Come join me, this application is fun" 'nuff said!
AND oh...if u r on Facebook too, add me ya? =)

In Everything Give Thanks

Read the bible today and devotion and was reminded of a few things, namely that I should not whinge so much but that I shld count my blessings and be content...for life could be worse...
In every thing give thanks.
If we pray without ceasing, we shall not lack and we would be thankful for many things.
As we must in every thing make our requests known to God by praying, so we must not omit thanksgiving (Phil 4:6 ).
We should be thankful in every condition, even in adversity as well as prosperity. It is never so bad with us but it might be worse.
If we have ever so much occasion to make our humble complaints to God, we never can have any reason to complain of God, and have always much reason to praise and give thanks: the apostle (Paul) says that this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning us, that we give thanks, seeing we are reconciled to God in Christ Jesus; in him, through him, and for his sake, he allows us to rejoice always, and reminds us to be thankful in life for many things. And thus, this pleases God.

MobTV - An update

I absolutely love MobTV!
I can get to any point of the show, pause it and rewind anytime i want to.

I mentioned in the previous post abt my recent two fave shows and how the names of Tay Ping Hui's characters are similar in the two shows. Thanks to the power of the pause button...GUESS WAT? The boh liao person in me actually noticed that the car that Ping Hui drove in 'Mars vs Venus' is the SAME as the one his character's dad drove in 'Honour and Passion'!
the license plate number? SDR 3333C - Grey Toyota Camry! heh heh...chao boh liao rite?

Woohoo! MobTV

Finally got ard to subscribing to MobTV

For those who proli dun live in Singapore (or been hiding under some rock in Singapore), MobTV is Singapore's first online video-on-demand service. It is operated by MediaCorp TV.
For a subscription fee, one can have access to many MediaCorp programmes (even old popular ones)! Sometimes u can even watch a program before the actual telecast on free-to-air TV!

I subscribed to it because of Felicia Chin's (=P) latest drama (plus I saw the actual filming once too!); this u may find silly but due to me missing the first ep of "Honour and Passion" on TV. I decided not to continue watching it on TV at all, hence missing the whole series. BUT thanks to MobTV, all is not lost as I can download (or watch it via streaming) the entire series now. heh heh

Wotz more, I can also watch "Mars & Venus" which I liked but missed plenty of eps when it was on TV.
Incidentally, anyone realised that Tay Ping Hui's character's name in "Honour and Passion" is the same name as his character's wife in Mars and Venus?! hehe...I'm proli the only wu liao person to notice such things. :P

Ok...back to more MobTV...till then...bye bye...(hmm...wat shld I watch next ah)...

Track Your Diet - Singapore Style

Check out the Diet Tracker, a useful tool that helps you keep track of your calorie and fat intake through your mobile phone!
The beautiful thing is that almost everyone (I say almost as I know of some who do not want one!) has a mobile phone and we carry them with us like, 99% of the time so it is only wise of HPB to create this software for the mobile phone! Kudos to them for this wonderful idea. From a non-profit organisation no less!
Its database is based on our local foods by the Health Promotion Board (HPB)

Simply go to the HPB website and submit your details and you can either download to your PC and then transfer to your mobile or directly download it via GPRS.

I tried it and itz awesome! It creates a personal profile for you and your energy and fat requirements are calculated individually to you.
You can then proceed on to add what you ate for the day from the database of local food delights.

Strange Bedfellows? NOOO...It's 'I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry'

CRIKEY!

I Now Pronounce You Chuck and LarryAs much as I like Adam Sandler, I have to say this...his new comedy 'I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry' (opening soon) abt a pair of frenz declaring themselves gay to save on tax is not original!

When I first saw the trailer, I thought "Wow, looks farnee, sounds original, yayy, another movie to watch!"
Then I had this feeling like "eh? no leh...this plot sounds somewhat familiar..."
It dawned upon me that Hollywood has 'stolen' another story from pple more creative than themselves! tsk tsk

I watched a similar movie before (when I was studying in Australia) abt a pair of firemen in a small Aussie town who could save on tax by declaring themselves gay.

Strange Bedfellows

At least the makers of the film could at least say that this is a remake, or based on...at least da U.S 'Taxi' din claim they were original, neither did 'The Departed' despite not adopting the 'Infernal Affairs' moniker.

Haiz...well peeps, judge fer yourself and tell me if these two movies are not overly similar!

'Shelter' by Corrinne May

This is my fave song from her latest album 'Beautiful Seed'

Beautiful melody (esp the Cherry Blossom Edition), the strings are a nice touch. and the jap-like melody
This version is different due to a different key...minor key I think...

What's wrong, what's getting you down
Is it something I might have said?
You're walking around with your head to the ground and your eyes are watery red
I know you've been through tough times Kicked around, thrown to the ground but you've always been the strong one
So don't tell me that nobody gets you 'cause I'm standing in your corner Knocking at your door You don't have to be alone
Just call my name
Let me be an answer
'cause it hurts me to see you this way
I wanna ease your pain
Help me understand
Let me be your shelter my friend

We share a bond You and I we belong We're like coffee and morning trains
You strip my defenses I catch your pretenses The same blood runs through our veins
I swore I'd be your lifeline Made a vow that I'd surround you with love at every milestone
I'll listen when nobody gets you
I'm still standing in your corner Waiting by your door You don't have to be alone
Just call my name Let me be an answer
'cause it hurts me to see you this way
Ohhh...I wanna ease your pain
Help me understand
Let me be your shelter my friend

It was not too long ago
You sought to understand You helped me mend Remember when So promise me you'll...
Call my name
Let me be an answer
'cause it hurts me to see you this way
Ohhh...I wanna ease your pain
Help me understand
Let me be your shelter my friend
Ohhh...
My Friend...

I'm... Mr Miyagi?

Got this from Claudia (who in turn got it from kennysia)

Congratulations Jzin, you are...

Mr Miyagi of miyagi.sg

You are witty, and you know people from places. Those two qualities and others make you a very popular person among your peers, because they want to hear you dish out filthy backstage gossips. You also have a knack for inventing new words to suit yourself. You are a very loyal friend, and would jump into the ocean if your friend asked you to. And that's probably gonna happen if your friend gets too jealous of you getting all the girls/guys.

National Day Pt One - My First Nuffnang Event! (plus Rush Hour 3 review)

SO...I had won tix to the event right?

I was pretty excited as I din know wat to expect. I thought it would be a great opportunity to meet new bloggers and exchange pointers (or something like that...OR at least make some frenz meet some like-minded people)

Aiyo! Instead, (as u proli read in many other blogs by now) most just go there, register, eat the (free) food, and waited for the movie to start...eh...where's the COMMUNITY in the community event?! I thought there might be like, some activity of some sort to mingle and interact with others but no...

At least I saw DT, Claudia, and Sheylara and they all said hi. Saw nannywen as well but din get to say hi as she was working :(

Wat I din expect to see were celeb bloggers like XX (and her ang moh bf) and Dawn Yang (she realli realli super slim until it's like illegal!)

Anyways, thatz just some of my thoughts on the events
I'll just let the rest of the pictures do the talking...

Below: Registration area, Nuffnang staff (and Nannywen), the goodies bags, my National Day-inspired' costume

Above: My shy 'date and her label (cute ah? It says "I'm here for free food"...), XX, the finger food (and a glimpse of QY), popcorn from Kwik-E-Mart!

Ok, all that aside, the movie was alright (free mah...cannot hiam too much). Plot was minimal, slapstick laughs, farnee one-liners, Chris Tucker's non-stop mouth rattling off (it got on my nerves at times) but overall it was ok...entertaining enuff but it feels 30mins too long. In my opinion, worse of the lot (the first Rush Hour proli the best). Another case of sequel-itis (a whole string of disappointing summer blockbuster sequels)

My Pre-death Eulogy...wat it reads now...

I was inspired by some one-page self-descriptive interviews seen in some local men's magazine so I decided to come up with a one-page interview...of moi...

Descriptive Profile

A corny music-lover who will ruin your taste buds with his cooking

Currently trying to finish his Masters Degree in Nutrition & Dietetics at Flinders University of South Australia (He is actually 10-weeks shy of completion) after a stint as a freelance writer with a media company.

Aspires to have a meaningful career. “I wish to have an occupation that means more than just a job and an income,” Eu-Jzin shares. He also wants to be able to juggle career and domestic duties in the future. “I want to be able to take care of the household, be there for the kids and not let my wife worry about family matters.”

Aspires to be a dietitian and Who Makes It A Point To Get The Most Out Of Life

Interests Passionate about health. He also TRIES to be toned by swimming and hitting the gym—or playing now and then. This fat thing also takes an occasional dip in the pool and heads down to the gym twice a week. He’s now thinking of taking up Pilates.

Passionate about dogs and sports. This tanned fatty adores Beagles, Labs and Golden Retrievers, who can take up quite a bit of his time. Eu-Jzin loves meeting people and enjoys the challenge of trying to understand complex individuals.

Passionate about cooking. This dude would love to create a storm in the kitchen. His specialties are instant noodles, stuffed mushrooms and pasta, having picked up the skills from his stay overseas. "The spicier it is, the better," he adds.

Passionate about jazz and classical music. “I also enjoy watching musicals and Broadway shows,” he enthuses. Mama Mia is his absolute favourite followed by 'Phantom of the Opera'. Travelling is another passion.

Gets his kicks playing guitar and singing with his group The Nobodies. Their favourite song at the moment is “When will I be famous” by The Small Fries. EJ is also into tennis, and swimming. To catch movies, he goes to The Cathay or Vivocity GV.

Get his kicks by trying anything once! “I’m a great believer in the notion that you don’t know what you’re missing until you try it,” he enthuses. That has included skiing and stunt driving.

Gets his kicks hiking. "I like getting in touch with my bohemian side and I sometimes like being one with nature," he explains, adding that next month, he’s hiking in nearby Jurong Point. Besides conquering trails and scaling hills, this karaoke fan gets busy on the mic twice a month at outlets in Orchard Road. His favourites include Sam Lee's 'Lately', Guan Liang’s ‘Fairytale’ and Fish Leong’s ‘Tiffany’.

Gets his kicks by travelling. “I like to experience the culture and to physically visit the places that I see in magazines,” he shares, having been to JB, Hong Kong, Thailand and Australia. Next stop? A tour across Europe, and the United States’ eastern coast.
Furthermore, keeping fit is high on this tanned fatty’s agenda. He hits the gym twice a week and Pilates. What’s more, he adores foot reflexology. He says, “The pain and pleasure of foot reflexology is out of this world!”

Hangs out at at trails at Orchard Road or Rundle Mall. If you fail to see him there, then try to spot him sipping at places like The Bar @Regent, TCC, and Coco Latte—or anywhere where there’s smooth jazz.
For movies, he goes to Cineleisure or Great World City. And if it’s shopping, it’s off to Orchard Road.
Hangs out at Holland Village coffee joints.
Wants to hang out at the Botanic Gardens on weekends for brunch.

Hangs out at. If all that fails, try the hawker centre, which he has his favourite chai tau kway

His idea of a New Woman “Someone who is self-confident, polite, kind, not too possessive and has a sense of humour. And being into the arts and sports helps!”

Mottos

"Smile, it’s a beautiful day".

“When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.”

"Listen," he says. "We learn more when we listen instead of interrupting others with our own thoughts and views."

“Everything happens for a reason, so just learn from your mistakes, move on, be happy.”

“I don’t really live by any one motto, but I do make it a point to never regret anything I do in life.”

My Eventful 07.07.07

Wedding lesson number one: TRY not to go to a wedding if you realise that no one else you know will be there (unless u know the bride and groom very well)

Wedding lesson number two: NO need to fret with wat to wear to a wedding. Most pple these days seem to pretty much wear wat they want. I saw jeans, no tie, low cuts, etc

Anyways, let me describe to u my day.

Wedding: It was the loneliest i've ever been to! Besides the bride (and her sis), I knew no one else. Yet I was also helping 0ut, usually those who help out are the ones who are close. And if u are close, u should at least know a few pple right? but no...
needless to say, I didn't stay for the wedding lunch.

Yellow: Then met up with Yellow for some shopping (it was also first time since a looong while since i last saw xiaohui, my niece whom i have not seen for at least ten years!)

Ping.sg: My first ping.sg gathering. I expected more but really, it was a pretty boring affair. But I was very glad that pple like uzyn and rinaz took the effort to say hi and chat with me.

Yellow: Dinner...we went to miss clarity and yellow said that the toilet not good standard, which in turn reflects badly on their kitchen hygiene. In others words, FAIL.

Umbrella?! Nope...Ves-pa...Espa espa eh eh eh

Good-ness Rinaz! You rock!

You guys know that super popular (yet somewhat irritating) Umbrella song by Rihanna?!
Goodness even my mum knows that song (and hates it, and so does my 23 y.o sis)

Here's an improved version done by a certain singaporean teacher...

Below are the lyrics (Credit: Malique):
ahuh ahuh (yeah marina)
ahuh ahuh (she rides a vespa)
ahuh ahuh (place the key..action)
ho!
no problem with the storms
traffic jam but she takes it likes a breeze with ease like she owns

with ease like she owns
she does it better
makes you look weaker
she rides it better

you know me,
im gonna stutter, with her vespa that big and i like it when chicks kick
bigg malique the man is back, with the vespa cat
marina where u at?

---

You had my heart
And we should never be apart
No matter the summons
By traffic wardens

Baby, in traffic jams
who cares about shiny cars
And thats when I need you there
Great times we'll always share

Because

when the jam piles we'll glide together
on the highway, we'll go forever
you will always be my friend
My baby scoot, we'll stick it out to the end

Now there's traffic more than ever
Know that we'll still have each other
you can ride on my vespa..espa espa eh eh eh
You can ride on my vespa

Those fancy things
Will never come in between
You're part of my entity
If for infinity

And the world has too much cars
And the world has too much jams
You can see frustration
Together we'll mend their hearts

---

You can run into my arms
ride on scoot, dont be alarmed
come into me
There's no distance in between our love

So go on let the traffic pour
Vespa's all you need and more

---

There's traffic traffic, baby come into me ...

On The Side of Me

Corrinne May is one of my fave singer-songwriters from Singapore.

She draws lots of inspiration from her life in Singapore, sickness, family, frenz and her spiritual experiences.

Her lyrics are heartfelt and a lot of people find her songs easy to relate to.

Here's one from her latest album "Beautiful Seed" (out now in the music stores!)

'On The Side of Me'
By Corrinne May

I'm not the easiest person to love
I'm often the one who lets things go unresolved

Yet you choose to be
on the side of me
on the side of me
Yet you choose to be on the side of me
on the side of me

I'm not too proud of some things
I've done in my life
The skeletons in my closet
Are too big for me to hide

Yet you choose to be
on the side of me
on the side of me
Blessed Charity

You're on the side of me
on the side of me

Everyone needs a friend to hold
when it's cold outside
and there's no place to go
Everyone needs a friend to hold
all alone I cried
there was no place to go
I remember when nobody cared
but you

I'm not the easiest person to love
But you, you've opened your heart to show me what I'm worth

'Cause you choose to be
on the side of me
on the side of me
What a mystery
You're on the side of me

on the side of me

Everyone needs a friend to hold
when it's cold outside
and there's no place to go
Everyone needs a friend to hold
all alone I cried
there was no place to go

I remember when nobody cared
Nobody cared
But you...

Yeah you choose to be
on the side of me
on the side of me

STOP Whinge-ing Jzin!

Note: A delayed post

I had a really bad time the past few days...

(WARNING: long post)

My colleague sorta got fired; on that note...I feel that his termination was rather unjustified.
Firstly, let me give u a background on things...whilst looking for a full time job, I am a currently working (temp) for a company that has the distributor rights to a few watch brands on the market (I can only say that one of the brands is an American sports watch company, another brand whose designer is actually more known for his shoe designs and has since now expanded to many fashion items like clothes and recently perfumes, another Italian brand more known for sunnies whose ads included a certain famous soccer player...)
Due to poor sales performance, my colleague (letz just call him Cam) was terminated. AND the farnee thing was he was NEVER told that he was being let go...it was implied/hinted! What kind of BS is that?! Its soooooo dodgy.
Anyway, I would not say that the entire thing (poor sales) is his fault entirely; personally, i think some of the brands are great. Just not every single model. AND the wisdom that is the company's sales exec chooses to bring in certain models that only, erm...a few percentage of the Singapore population would like (maybe the aunties and ah peks, or simply pple with hmm...letz just say they got very unique tastes). The thing is, the target population of the product is the masses, u DO NOT position your product to a select few!

I remember the four Ps of marketing (did one module during my undergrad days)
  1. Product
  2. Price
  3. Place
  4. Promotion
But i think i another 'P' is impt. The People...your target grp

Product to match the People no?

'nuff said!

Anyways, back to the topic, I felt really unjustified for Cam; I worked with him and besides the occasional lateness, he is a good worker. He did lots and corrected many mistakes that the company did.
Then I wondered abt my own efforts done for the company. I used to think that my colleagues were nice people. But apparently when stressful situation comes up and their asses are on the line...the halos disappear and little devil horns come out of their heads and they take out their knives and start aiming for backs of their so-called teammates.

I thought long and hard, and during work the past few days, I felt so listless and wary that I might be given the boot soon. Hence, I am going to say bye bye to that company real soon and proli never EVER buying their products again. Besides, one of the watches I bot from them like broke in a matter of three months! The blind faith I placed on them!

Sooo..yesterday, a fren came to have lunch with me and I was like whining the WHOLE time. "Sucks", "sucky", "it sucks" were my basic vocab the whole time. But she was patient and nice enuff to listen, and encourage me dispite her own dire situation. She herself had been sorta persuaded to resign which I feel was another case of unjustified 'termination'. And also having other problems in her life.

Soon, other frenz also started to encourage me, for which I am thankful. Things are alwis not as bad as it seemed. In fact, it could be worse.

I should count my blessings and instead of whinge-ing, channel that energy into something constructive instead. Like blogging about the injustice suffered by frenz, updating a bit on my life, and hopefully, encouraging someone along the way.

I am a Deserving Shopper!

What can I say? I'm one of the few guys who love shopping!

The Deserving Shopper

Shopping, for you, is best when you have just accomplished something that makes you feel marvelous about yourself. You hit the stores when feel like you should be rewarded — maybe you just lost some weight or finished up a difficult project. Whatever it is, you express the importance and joy of that accomplishment through splurging on yourself. And why not? You deserve it.
